AirAsia X flight travelling from Sydney to Malaysia made a safe emergency landing at Brisbane Airport after experiencing a cabin pressure issue shortly after takeoff.
Flight D7221 was en route to Kuala Lumpur late Sunday night when pilots detected a technical problem and issued an international emergency signal, known as “squawk 7700.” The aircraft quickly turned back and was diverted to Brisbane as a precautionary safety measure.
The plane, carrying 142 passengers and 11 crew members, landed safely less than two hours after departure, with no injuries reported.
An AirAsia X spokesperson confirmed the diversion was carried out in line with strict aviation safety procedures.
“While cabin pressure remained within safe limits, the captain decided to divert the aircraft to Brisbane Airport as a precaution. This decision was made in accordance with established operational safety protocols,” the spokesperson said.
The aircraft will now undergo a full engineering inspection before resuming its journey to Kuala Lumpur.
Brisbane Airport authorities confirmed the flight touched down safely and passengers were provided with overnight accommodation and support.
AirAsia X said the flight will continue to Malaysia once the aircraft has been thoroughly assessed and declared safe for travel.
